Champagne Nicolas Maillart
Platine Magnum
The Champagne Platine by Nicolas Maillart takes shape on the Montagne de Reims, where the parcels of Écueil, Villers-Allerand and Bouzy alternate sandy and chalky soils across Premier and Grand Cru classifications. It is the cuvée that most clearly expresses the reading of the land by a family that has been rooted in Écueil for generations, where the pursuit of stylistic continuity relies on careful viticulture and an assemblage designed to deliver balance even before power.
This edition in Magnum format, based on the 2020 harvest, brings together 62% Pinot Noir grapes, 28% Chardonnay and 10% Meunier sourced exclusively from vineyards classified Premier and Grand Cru, with around half of the assemblage entrusted to vin de réserve from previous years. Vinification and maturation take place in fût de chêne, while after the tirage the wine rests on its lees for at least 48 months, and the final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, preserves its tension.
On tasting, Platine shows a bright golden colour with a fine and persistent perlage, while the nose opens with a clear scent of apple that gradually evolves towards ripe fruit and the toasty hints of oak. On the palate the fresh and vinous attack introduces a rich texture, well supported by the long ageing, with a finesse that runs through the whole tasting experience and a measured persistence that closes on a composed finish of notable length.
