Coteaux Champenois Vincent Cuillier
Chardonnay 2022
The Coteaux Champenois Chardonnay by Vincent Cuillier reveals the most intimate and quiet side of Champagne. It is a still white wine that sets aside the bubbles to let the terroir and the character of Chardonnay speak. The grapes come from the L’Hermitage (lieu-dit) plot, near the village of Pouillon, in the Massif de Saint-Thierry. This area north-west of Reims is still little known to the wider public, yet it produces wines of great finesse and personality. The result is a still white wine that honestly conveys the identity of a place and the sensitivity of a vigneron who works to preserve the purity of the fruit.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, follows a vinification and maturation process that respects the integrity of the grapes. A light maceration on the skins gives the wine greater aromatic depth and a more layered structure. It then ages for about 20 months in fût de chêne, which adds complexity and highlights the terroir without altering the precision of Chardonnay.
On tasting, the wine stands out for its refined elegance and vibrant freshness, carried by an intense minerality that is the most authentic signature of the Pouillon soils. On the palate it shows a harmonious balance between tension and substance. The structure is measured yet deep, thanks to the maceration and the long time in wood, and leads to a long, saline finish of remarkable persistence. Production in a limited run of 263 bottles, intended for enthusiasts seeking a rare and sophisticated interpretation of the variety.
