Les Chétillons Magnum 2017

The Champagne Les Chétillons is the Cuvée Spéciale by Pierre Péters and the quintessence of the Côte des Blancs. Since 1971 this Blanc de Blancs has expressed the chalky soul of the Grand Cru of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger through old vines more than forty-five years of age. It rests on a rigorous parcel selection, reserved for the finest years only, in which the minerality of the limestone soil becomes a pure expression of an iconic terroir and of a family tradition preserved with dedication.

This edition, Vintage 2017, is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel to keep the tension, finesse and aromatic purity of the Chardonnay intact. After tirage comes a long ageing of at least 72 months on the lees, followed by a further year of rest in bottle after dégorgement before release. The final dosage of less than 4 g/l, in Extra Brut style, shapes its elegant and rigorous profile.

On tasting, Les Chétillons 2017 has a bright golden yellow colour with the greenish reflections typical of Chardonnay and a fine, steady, persistent perlage. The nose is complex and powerful, opening with floral notes of acacia and hawthorn, followed by peach, orange zest, pear and almond milk. With aeration, spicy hints of gingerbread and dried flowers emerge before giving way to a creamy chalkiness. On the palate the attack is pure and vibrant, with a sense of strength and softness. Aromas of dried and ripe fruit such as mandarin, apricot and hazelnut mingle with sweet flowers and toasty notes. A sharp, taut mineral core supports concentration and complexity, revealing extraordinary ageing potential and a finish of great finesse and persistence.
