The Champagne Le Mesnil by Salon ranks among the rarest and most sought-after labels in the entire region, produced only in the years the Maison considers truly exceptional and capable of expressing in absolute terms the Grand Cru of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the Côte des Blancs. Born from the vision of Aimé Salon, who in the early twentieth century imagined a wine made from a single cru, a single grape variety and a single year, it has preserved for over a century an intact ideal of purity, borne out by only a few dozen declared vintages.

This 45th edition, Vintage 2015, takes shape from a hot, dry and sunny summer followed by a cooler, rainy September, which delivered perfectly ripe grapes and livelier acidity than expected, harvested from the historic plot of the Jardin de Salon and from nineteen selected parcels in the village. Vinification and fermentation take place in stainless steel without malolactic fermentation, after tirage the wine ages on the lees for around nine years before dégorgement, and the final dosage of 6 g/l, in Brut style, completes its balance.

On tasting, Salon 2015 opens tight and reserved at first, then reveals notes of citrus peel, white peach, pear, linden blossom and freshly baked bread, accompanied by chalky nuances and a touch of toasted hazelnut. On the palate it shows generous, enveloping flesh, supported by a surprising underlying tension and an exceptionally fine mousse, which accompany a broad, harmonious progression towards a saline and mineral finish of great persistence.
