Jules Barat

Jules Barat's story is a family one, spanning three generations of growers in Champagne. His grandfather Robert began working the vines in the early 1960s, and his father Philippe expanded the estate after joining it in the 1980s. For decades the Barats sold their grapes to various négociants. Then Jules came home in autumn 2022 after studying viticulture and oenology in Beaune, and with the 2023 harvest he became the first in the family to make his own wine.

The young Domaine is based in Bragelogne-Beauvoir, on the slopes of the Vallée de la Sarce in the Barséquanais (Côte des Bar), where Pinot Noir fills almost every row. Here Jules farms without herbicides to keep the soils alive. He made his debut with a single-plot Pinot Blanc, a rare cépage oublié still permitted in Champagne. Two more single-plot wines are already resting in the cellar: a Pinot Noir due in spring 2027 and a Chardonnay due in spring 2028. Jules Barat is a new name in the Côte des Bar, and one well worth discovering.
