The Champagne Sempiternel by Vincent Bliard is the deepest and most contemplative expression of the Domaine, a wine of memory that celebrates the value of time and the continuity of a family vision handed down from generation to generation. From Hautvillers, a Premier Cru village in the Vallée de la Marne, the family pursues certified organic, environmentally respectful viticulture, and this cuvée brings together its experience and convictions, crowning the efforts of a life devoted to the vineyard and the cellar.
This edition, from the 2009 harvest, is a Blanc de Blancs made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, which here express all their finesse and their aptitude for ageing. Vinification and maturation take place in foudre, with one year of Ă©levage sous bois that gives the wine roundness and a delicate tannic texture. After tirage, the wine undergoes a very long ageing on its lees of more than ten years, while the low final dosage of 3 g/l enhances its timeless character.
On tasting, Sempiternel is tonic, saline and remarkably pure, with a deep, layered bouquet in which candied citrus, ripe white-fleshed fruit and hints of brioche and dried fruit blend with the evolved notes brought by its long rest in the cellar. On the palate it shows a taut, vibrant structure, supported by a still surprising freshness and a chalky minerality that lead to a very long finish of rare elegance and persistence.
