Cuvée Hunger for Speed
The Champagne Hunger for Speed by Jérôme Lefèvre is a bold, unconventional single-parcel cuvée. It grew out of a project to push Meunier's expressiveness in the Vallée de la Marne to its furthest limits. Old vines in Les Chouttes (lieu-dit), near Charly-sur-Marne, give a Blanc de Noirs with a strong personality and great character, reflecting the free, contemporary stylistic research that has always guided the Maison.
This edition, made entirely from Meunier, is an extreme interpretation. During vinification and fermentation, part of the grapes' natural sugars is left unconverted, which gives the wine a very appealing glyceric richness. With no final dosage, the cuvée finds its balance naturally, as the fruit and the body of the wine balance tension and roundness.
On tasting, Hunger for Speed shows an intense, evocative nose, where smoky notes mingle with baked pear, ripe apricot and honey. On the palate it is surprisingly broad and consistent, with an aromatic sweetness that recalls candied apricots, almond cheesecake and fruit jellies. The fresh, citrusy finish lifts the structure and brings out its balance, leading to a long, harmonious finish. Production in a limited run of 1,500 individually numbered bottles.
