The Champagne Chardonnay by Corbon is a direct tribute to Avize, the Grand Cru village that stands as a symbol of the Côte des Blancs, where the chalky subsoil gives the grapes a tension and purity hard to find elsewhere. It is the wine that best tells the identity of this small family estate of vignerons, long devoted to the village's Chardonnay and guided by a respectful, craft-driven approach that forgoes pesticides and herbicides to leave the last word to terroir and time.

This edition, Vintage 2015, is a Blanc de Blancs born from a warm and generous year that brought the grapes to full ripeness, with vinification and fermentation carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and glass-lined concrete vats, without malolactic fermentation, filtration or fining. After tirage comes a very long ageing on the lees of around ten years, which brings depth, complexity and great finesse.

On tasting, the Chardonnay 2015 stands out for its fine, creamy perlage and a generous, expressive nose of golden apple, ripe lemon and toasted brioche, enriched by hints of hazelnut and a clear chalky note that underlines its origin. On the palate the material is rich, enveloping and well structured, supported by a pure, incisive minerality and a lively acidity that keeps tension and energy through to a long, saline and luminous finish of remarkable persistence.

In the 1920s Charles Corbon settled in Avize, a Grand Cru village of the Côte des Blancs, and after working for a Maison he bought his first vines. For decades the family grew grapes for the négociants, until in the 1970s Claude Corbon chose to make and bottle his own wines. Since 2006 the estate has been led by his daughter Agnès, the fourth generation, who returned to Champagne after a period in England and studies in oenology, giving the Domaine a personal and free-spirited style.

Today the Domaine covers around six hectares, two of Chardonnay in the Avize Grand Cru and the rest in the Vallée de la Marne across Trélou-sur-Marne, Vandières, Verneuil and Vincelles, where Pinot Noir and Meunier are also grown. Agnès has given up herbicides and pesticides, ages part of her wines in used oak barrels and neither filters nor fines them, leaving the bottles to mature at length on the lees. These are sincere, lively and never predictable Champagnes, uniting the minerality of the Côte des Blancs with the generosity of the Vallée de la Marne.
