Description

Champagne Taittinger
Demi Sec

The Taittinger Demi Sec is derived from the same blend as Taittinger Brut Réserve, with a composition of 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier. The final cuvée includes over 40 crus from different harvests, perfectly matured. The wine rests on the lees for three years before dégorgement, followed by a dosage of 35 g/l, giving it its distinctive sweetness that sets it apart from Brut Réserve and enhances its ability to accompany sweet dishes.

On tasting, Demi Sec presents a pale golden yellow color, with fine bubbles and a generous, persistent mousse. On the nose, it opens with hints of honey and ripe fruit, enriched with nuances of greengages and elderflowers. On the palate, the attack is lively, soft, and slightly acidic, with a predominance of mandarin, followed by syrupy peaches and dried figs. The finish is smooth, full-bodied, and long-lasting, creating a rounded, sweet, and enveloping wine with great charm and sensuality.

The Taittinger Demi Sec is a gourmet Champagne, whose sweetness and softness, combined with its dosage, make it the perfect pairing for refined desserts, such as chocolate cake, strawberry charlotte, and warm madeleines.

Champagne Taittinger

The Maison Taittinger is synonymous with innovation and excellence, a family legacy passed down through generations. “Having our family name on a bottle means expectations and responsibilities every minute. This name conveys the knowledge of the past and a commitment to the future,” said Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, who led the Maison for over forty years. Today, this vision is carried on by his children, Clovis and Vitalie Taittinger, who run the company with the same passion and dedication, ensuring continuity and prestige for one of the greatest names in Champagne.

The Taittinger cellars, located in the depths of Reims, lie among the remains of the ancient Benedictine abbey of Saint-Nicaise, built in the 13th century and once owned by the Comtes de Champagne. This labyrinth of galleries, crypts, and Gothic vaults, carved into the Gallo-Roman chalk caves, served as a refuge for the early Christians and later hosted the Champagne production by the monks. Today, a UNESCO World Heritage site, it preserves the history and aging of the Maison Taittinger Champagnes.

The Taittinger vineyards cover 288 hectares, making the Maison one of the largest landowners in Champagne. The estate includes 37 prestigious Crus, with a breakdown of 37% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir, and 15% MeunierChardonnay, the cornerstone of the Taittinger style, grows in the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs (Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger), while Pinot Noir comes from the most renowned areas of the Montagne de Reimsand Côte des Bar. The more resilient Meunier is mostly grown in the Vallée de la Marne, on clay and sandy soils.

The Maison Taittinger adopts sustainable viticulture practices, including vineyard cover cropping, plowing with horses, and massal selection of vines, earning the “Viticulture Durable en Champagne” and “Haute Valeur Environnementale” environmental certifications in 2017, as confirmation of its commitment to responsible and innovative farming.
