The Champagne Ruinart Millésime 2016 embodies the essence of elegance and finesse that define the Maison Ruinart, while offering an extraordinary expression of the unique character of the 2016 vintage. The result of a careful blending of Chardonnay (48%), Pinot Noir (32%) and Meunier (20%) grapes, this cuvée draws its grapes mainly from the prestigious Grand Cru and Premier Cru of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. Each variety brings a unique dimension: the freshness and elegance of Chardonnay, the structure of Pinot Noir and the roundness of Meunier. The 2016 vintage was marked by contrasting climatic conditions: a cool, wet spring followed by a hot, dry summer. These extremes gave the grapes great expressiveness and aromatic concentration.
Vinification took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruity aromas. A light malolactic fermentation softened the acidity, creating a creamy and harmonious profile. Ageing for at least 6 years in the historic Ruinart cellars allowed the development of a unique aromatic complexity. A precise dosage of 5 g/L - making it a Brut - perfectly balances freshness and complexity.
Ruinart Millésime 2016 has a golden colour with delicate copper reflections, evidence of maturity and aromatic richness. On the nose, ripe yellow fruit such as peach and apricot blend with exotic notes. With the opening, hints of biscuits, cereals, dried fruit and a saline minerality emerge, giving depth and freshness. On the palate it offers a perfect balance of roundness and vivacity. Ripe fruit aromas intertwine with citrus nuances, providing a harmonious and persistent experience. The freshness of the Chardonnay dominates the finish, leaving a lively and inviting trail.
On the 1st September 1729 Nicolas Ruinart, drapery merchant in Reims like his father, opened his first book account dedicated to vin de bulles. He was 33 years old. That book also represents a birth certificate: his first Maison of Champagne. In 1768 Ruinart bought the crayeres, so-called ancient chalk caves (from the Roman time), digged beneath the city of Reims, 38m deep, to stock bottles. These chalky caves offer thermal stability, a vibration-free environment and a perfect humidity room: these are the perfect condition for the wine fermentation and aging. The Chardonnay vine is the soul of Maison Ruinart. Its grapes, mostly coming from Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, are the heart of its Cuvées. Distinguished by its fresh aromas, intense, pure and clear character, it is the fil rouge by all maison's mixes.
