Champagne Philipponnat
Clos de Goisses Magnum 2015

The Champagne Clos des Goisses by Philipponnat originates from one of the most extraordinary and iconic vineyards in Champagne: a walled clos of 5.83 hectares, with a slope reaching 45%, the oldest and steepest in the entire region. Fully south-facing, it stretches along the finest hillside of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, where chalk outcrops and imparts a distinctive mineral tension to the wine. The name “Goisses” comes from the Champenois dialect and refers to a very steep slope—a direct reference to the site’s topography. This clos was the first in Champagne to be vinified separately, starting in the 1930s, and still today represents one of the purest and most powerful expressions of terroir, thanks to the combination of exposure, chalky soil, and extreme inclination.

For the 2015 vintage, the blend is composed of 78% Pinot Noir and 22% Chardonnay. The vinification takes place in wood, without malolactic fermentation, to preserve the wine’s natural acidity and balance the power of the terroir. The wine then matures on its lees for at least eight years, developing remarkable depth and aromatic complexity. The Extra Brut dosage of just 4.5 g/l highlights the precision and expressive purity of this cru.

Upon tasting, Clos des Goisses 2015 reveals a bright golden hue, clear and luminous. On the nose, it strikes with floral intensity, offering notes of elderflower and wild rose, which evolve into more complex aromas of citrusvanilla, and subtle spicy nuances. On the palate, it is vibrant, elegant, and perfectly balanced, with flavors of citronValencia orange, and ripe citrus, followed by a long, fresh finish marked by hints of white peach and chalky minerality. A Millésime that rigorously and boldly expresses the unique essence of an exceptional site.

Limited production: 18,285 bottles, 1,981 magnums, and 200 jéroboams.

Winery

Champagne Philipponnat

In the heart of Premier and Grand Cru, the maison is proud of its own 20 hectares out of the most beautiful vineyards of Pinot Noir over the territory of Mareuil, Aÿ, Mutigny e Avenay, facing south and lying on pure chalk, as well as the old and renowed vines of Clos des Goisses and Lèon. Vinification follows the most natural methods and the fermentation temperatures are fresh, not too cold, so as to preserve the natural aromatic taste of the wine. The malolactic fermentation is brought the its end, except for the stongest wines, such as the Clos des Goisses. Dorages are on average particularly low, so sugar cannot disguise the balance between freshness and vinousity.
