The Champagne Blanc de Noirs 2018 by Philipponnat is a Millésime of extraordinary intensity and precision, made exclusively from Pinot Noir sourced from the finest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards of the Montagne de Reims and the Mareuil-sur-Aÿ area, the historic heart of the Maison. The 2018 vintage, with its generous and balanced profile, allowed for the full expression of this grape’s power and finesse. Partial vinification in wood, combined with the absence of malolactic fermentation, preserves freshness and verticality, while the extended lees ageing gives the wine depth and complexity. At the end of the process, the Champagne is dosed in the Extra Brut style, with a low sugar content that enhances its expressive purity and gustatory precision.
On tasting, the Blanc de Noirs Millésime 2018 shows a bright golden yellow color with amber highlights, evoking the structure of Pinot Noir. The bouquet is intense and layered: notes of yellow-fleshed fruit (peach, apricot), fresh red berries, and sweet spices emerge, accompanied by delicate toasty hints of hazelnut and warm bread. On the palate, the wine is full, rich, and taut, with a fine and creamy mousse supporting a long, savoury finish, with fruity returns and an elegant mineral trace.

In the heart of Premier and Grand Cru, the maison is proud of its own 20 hectares out of the most beautiful vineyards of Pinot Noir over the territory of Mareuil, Aÿ, Mutigny e Avenay, facing south and lying on pure chalk, as well as the old and renowed vines of Clos des Goisses and Lèon. Vinification follows the most natural methods and the fermentation temperatures are fresh, not too cold, so as to preserve the natural aromatic taste of the wine. The malolactic fermentation is brought the its end, except for the stongest wines, such as the Clos des Goisses. Dorages are on average particularly low, so sugar cannot disguise the balance between freshness and vinousity.
