Paul Bara

The Domaine Paul Bara has its roots in Bouzy, a Grand Cru village in the Montagne de Reims renowned for the power and finesse of Pinot Noir. Founded in 1833 and still family-run, it stands today as one of the most authentic historic estates in Champagne. In the 1950s, Paul Bara was the first of the dynasty to market Champagne under his own name, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the house.

The estate vineyard covers 11 hectares divided into 33 plots, with 9.5 hectares planted to Pinot Noir and 1.5 to Chardonnay. Many of the vines are old and rooted in chalky soils, which lend elegance and structure to the wines. Since 2020, the Domaine has been certified Haute Valeur Environnementale and Viticulture Durable en Champagne, thanks to practices such as natural cover cropping, the absence of herbicides and insecticides, and careful manual soil work to preserve biodiversity.

Paul Bara is a proud member of the prestigious Club Trésors de Champagne, which brings together some of the finest independent vignerons of the region. In the cellar, tradition meets technical precision, with stainless steel vinifications to safeguard freshness and purity. The judicious use of reserve wines enhances complexity, while extended lees ageing guarantees refined, harmonious cuvées of great longevity.

Since 2021, the estate has been managed by Stéphanie Ducloux, alongside Chantale Bara, an emblematic figure and former president of Club Trésors. In 2023, Grégory Baert was appointed Chef de Cave, succeeding Christian Forget after more than three decades of service. Today, the Paul Bara style remains true to elegant, precise and deeply authentic Champagnes, faithfully reflecting the unique soul of the Bouzy Grand Cru terroir.
