Mailly

Founded in 1929 by twenty-four vignerons from the Grand Cru village of Mailly-Champagne, in the Montagne de Reims, Mailly is one of the oldest Coopérative in Champagne. Born under the sign of boldness, it tells the story of winegrowers united by the desire to enhance the value of their work and free themselves from the control of the grandes Maisons, creating a collective model based on independence and quality.

From the very beginning, the members showed an innovative spirit: they purchased land at the entrance of the village and built a facility with a press and vinification tanks, designing a three-level gravity system that used the natural slope of the terrain. But between 1929 and 1931, the Cooperative faced a harsh boycott by the Syndicat du Commerce des Vins de Champagne, which feared rising grape prices and stopped buying from the vignerons of Mailly. Deprived of outlets, the members reacted by producing and selling their own Champagne directly.

With no capital or support, they rented equipment, recovered used bottles, and produced their first 3,600 bottles — a symbol of resilience and courage. Eighteen months later came their first client, who purchased the entire production, allowing profits to be reinvested and marking the true beginning of the Champagne Mailly adventure, destined to become one of the most solid cooperatives in the region.

Today, the Mailly Coopérative brings together eighty winegrowers and cultivates 70 hectares of vineyards, all classified Grand Cru. The 35 lieux-dits, oriented toward the four cardinal points, form a unique mosaic of terroirs: Pinot Noir, rooted in chalk, reveals freshness and saline minerality, while Chardonnay adds balance and finesse. With around 500,000 bottles produced each year and certifications VDC, HVE, and B Corp, Mailly today embodies a Champagne that is sustainable, transparent, and faithful to the roots of the Grand Cru of Mailly-Champagne.
