Krug Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition: the perpetuating myth

For Krug Grande Cuvée it can only be love at first sight, or rather at first taste; a unique fullness of flavors and aromas, an articulated mosaic of wines from different vintages, where Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay express themselves in all their nuances that will continue to improve over the time.

But what is the secret of Krug Grande Cuvée?

Today as in the past, the secret it’s the continuous search for excellence by the Maison, excellence supported by a production philosophy based on the exaltation of the terroir, the careful selection of the grapes, the obsessive attention to details in winemaking process, the art of the assembly of the vintages and the long aging in the cellar.
The fermentation of the grapes, which come from different vineyards of each village, takes place separately within the "pièces", the traditional 205-liter barriques, which must be rigorously used and are selected one by one. The wines are then gathered, according to their origin, in small thermo-controlled steel vats, and from this moment on the Maison begins the scrupulous work of tasting and assembling the vintage "vins clairs" and the "vin de réserve" preserved in the basement. The mission is to achieve the maximum expression of Champagne that is reflected in the new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.krug_grande_cuvee_170eme_edition_glugulp_shop_online-1.jpgChampagne Krug Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition is the result of the extraordinary blend of 195 wines from 12 different vintages, of which the youngest is from 2014 (55% of the blend) and the oldest is from 1998; an assembly therefore consisting of 45% of the Maison's vin di réserve of 11 vintages, for a final composition of 51% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay and 11% Meunier.
Krug Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition is one of the editions characterized by the lowest percentage of the base year (55%), a symptom of a 2014 not particularly favorable in terms of climatic conditions, which nevertheless granted a respite offering a temperate September with cool nights that preserved and guaranteed a generous harvest. To achieve the characteristic elegance of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Maison therefore had to use its wide range of vin di réserve and build a final blending to give breadth and roundness.
Krug Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition aged on the yeasts for 7 years, a circumstance that guaranteed the distinct refinement and elegance that distinguish each edition.

With golden reflections and a fine and lively perlage, Champagne Krug Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition offers a range of depth and harmony in which the floral and fruity notes of citrus alternate with light tones of hazelnut, toasted coffee and graphite on the finish.
The palate is broad, precise and deep, in the typical style of the Maison, the citrus acidity is dampened by the velvety fruit, mineral energy on the finish. Extreme pleasure that thrills with every sip.
