The Champagne La Côte à Bras 2014 by Joseph Perrier comes from a single Premier Cru parcel in Cumières, the historic AH83, owned by the family since 1865. A project launched in 2007 and built on a simple yet rigorous principle: one vineyard, one grape variety, one vintage, one wine. Here, Pinot Noir reaches its most authentic expression, offering a fresh and saline interpretation of the terroir.
The 2014 vintage, marked by a challenging climate yet redeemed by a favorable summer, produced wines of remarkable balance and elegance. Vinification included alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by tirage and at least 5 years of ageing on the lees. With no final dosage (0 g/l), it defines a pure and precise Brut Nature style.
On the palate, La Côte à Bras 2014 displays a luminous golden hue with copper highlights. The nose reveals aromas of strawberry and cherry confit, intertwined with delicate spicy and floral notes. The palate stands out for its finesse and tension, with citrus nuances and a mineral, saline finish – the unmistakable signature of the Cumières parcel.
Founded in 1825 in Châlons-en-Champagne by the young Joseph Perrier, the Maison was born in an old postal relay, transformed into its operational headquarters and flanked by a bourgeois house that later became the first cellar. During the 19th century, the property expanded with the annexation of Roman-era chalk caves, now the historical and symbolic heart of the Maison. For nearly two centuries, leadership has been passed from generation to generation, and today Camille and Benjamin Fourmon, representing the sixth generation, preserve the family spirit and the vision of a modern and conscientious craftsmanship.
Today, Joseph Perrier manages 21 hectares of vineyards spread across Cumières, Hautvillers, and Damery, in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. Here, among chalky and clayey soils, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier thrive, defining the Maison’s balanced and luminous style. The estate’s parcels cover about 30% of production needs, while the rest comes from a selection of 30 crus in the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vitryat regions — an expression of a broad vision aligned with the constant pursuit of excellence.
The aging cellars, carved into the hill of Châlons, stretch over 3 kilometers on a single level, avoiding the steep staircases typical of the region. These Gallo-Roman galleries, up to eight meters high and dotted with natural light wells, cradle the bottles in an atmosphere of timeless silence and charm. Renowned internationally, Joseph Perrier holds the title of official supplier to the British Royal Family — a privilege that inspired the iconic Cuvée Royale, still recognizable today by its royal mantle, a symbol of elegance and tradition.
