Vintage Collection 1999
The Maison Palmer safeguards an extraordinary collection of old vintages and rare millésimes, stored sur pointe in the deep chalk cellars 18 metres underground. Here, the extended ageing imparts to the wines exceptional complexity and fullness, while preserving a remarkable freshness. This is an oenological heritage that tells the story of time, terroir and savoir-faire in a unique language. The Vintage Collection is released in extremely limited quantities, offering an experience that goes beyond simple tasting. These cuvées embody the identity and inimitable style of the Maison, expressing a profound connection with the terroirs of the Montagne de Reims.
The Champagne Palmer Vintage Collection 1999 is the result of a blend of 49% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir and 13% Meunier, sourced mainly from the finest Premiers and Grands Crus. The selection was made by Chef de Cave Xavier Berdin and the Maison’s team of oenologists, chosen for their superior quality and ageing potential. The 1999 vintage was marked by extreme weather events: a violent hailstorm in May damaged part of the vineyards, but the warm summer of July and August ensured optimal ripening. Heavy rainfall in September reduced yields but did not affect the aromatic concentration.
On the palate, Vintage Collection 1999 reveals a complex bouquet of ripe fruit, honey, toasted hazelnut and delicate spicy nuances. The mouthfeel is broad and velvety, supported by vibrant freshness and a long, mineral persistence.
