Le Clos L'Abbé 2013

The Champagne Le Clos l’Abbé by Hubert Soreau originates from a micro-vineyard of just 0.21 hectares located just outside Épernay, in the Vallée de la Marne. It is a Blanc de Blancs crafted from 100% Chardonnay, sourced from the three parcels that make up the prestigious clos, cultivated with meticulous care.

The 2013 vintage was vinified and aged in oak barrels from the Hautvillers forest, in a family cellar shared with his wife Nathalie, producer of Champagne J. Vignier. The tirage was carried out with cork closure, followed by an exceptionally long 10-year ageing on the lees before disgorgement à la volée. No dosage was added, preserving the pure Brut Nature style.

On the palate, Le Clos l’Abbé opens with a rich and complex bouquet: aromas of white peachpear, and citrus, alongside notes of hazelnutbrioche, and subtle buttery nuances. With aeration, hints of white pepper and dried fruit emerge. The palate reveals a vibrant minerality that evolves into roundness and generosity, offering structure and depth for a tasting experience of great character and persistence.

The extremely limited production (1,017 bottles) and artisanal approach make this cuvée a true “vin de garage” in the noblest sense: tiny batches capable of expressing a terroir with rare precision and elegance.

Champagne Hubert Soreau

Hubert Soreau, born in the town of Maubeuge, in the far north of France on the border with Belgium, moved to Champagne with his family in the 1990s, near the famous parcel "Le Clos l'Abbé" just outside Epernay. Originally planted in the 9th century, this parcel has a long history also recalled in the writings by the Abbot Saint Martin d’Epernay in the 17th century and known for the production of Champagne. In 1993, Hubert's parents bought a small batch and in 2003 Hubert bought more. Today Hubert Soreau cultivates his grapes in three separate lots of “Le Clos l'Abbé”, for a total area of only 21 ares (0.21 hectares). After a first experience at a Maison de négoce, he decides to produce his first Champagne of unique provenance from “Le Clos l'Abbé”, called Champagne Le Clos l'Abbé. It is a “single vintage, single parcel, single barrel” approach, currently already used by some winemakers in the region, accompanied by a perspective free from traditions and conventions. The Clos's 100% Chardonnay vines are like a garden in bloom, as evidenced by the tulips and daffodils that bloom between the rows in spring; they are cut in the "chablisienne" style and no herbicides and pesticides are used. The grapes are then vinified and aged in wood barrels from the nearby Hautvillers forest, tirage sur liège and long aging before dègorgement à la volée.
