Vintage 2015 Special Edition –Tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat [Bleu]

DOM PÉRIGNON VINTAGE 2015, SPECIAL EDITION TRIBUTE TO JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT (Bleu)

The star of Dom Pérignon’s new 2024 Special Edition is Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), the iconic New York artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Street Art. Dom Pérignon has chosen to honour him with this significant tribute: a Limited Edition of its Vintage 2015 in an exclusive collection featuring three bottles, each presented in packaging that artistically reinterprets the famous 1983 work “IN ITALIAN”, celebrating the refined art of assemblage.

Dom Pérignon has a creative ambition: the relentless pursuit of a harmony that is a source of emotion. Every creative process has its constraints, and for Dom Pérignon it is the vintage: an absolute commitment to witness the vintage of one and only one year, whatever the challenge, going so far as not to declare the vintage if necessary. Time is of the essence in the Dom Pérignon equation. It takes at least eight years of elaboration to achieve the aesthetic ideal of the Maison. In the darkness of the cellars, inside the bottles, the wine undergoes an active transformation in contact with the yeasts, to achieve the harmony that is the hallmark of Dom Pérignon. It is there that everything takes place, with great precision, on the edge of extraordinary balance.

The 2015 vintage, after a relatively mild winter, showed remarkable contrasts. Spring started with a cold spell, quickly followed by a prolonged heat wave from mid-May to mid-August, characterised by exceptionally sunny and dry conditions. This caused water stress and varying ripening rates in different areas. August 2015 was the hottest since 1961. Fortunately, in the second half of the month, rains ended the drought, restarting the ripening process. The harvest began on 7 September, under favourable sunshine. The excellent health of the grapes made it possible to conduct an ideal harvest cycle for almost three weeks. The tasting of the grapes revealed an extraordinary generosity, devoid of excess.

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 reveals an initial darkness on the nose with roasted and cocoa powder notes. It gradually opens up as a floral bouquet. Lime leaves, jasmine and finally peony highlight the spicy dimension of the wine, with anise and cardamom. A vegetal and fruity freshness massages the overall sensation with chlorophyll, orange peel and green papaya. On the palate the wine is broad and horizontal. It spreads across the palate, delicate then generous. It caresses and stimulates the mouth at the same time, more on the sides of the tongue than on the tip. Fresh peach flesh and nectarine wrap around sculpted bitter notes of citrus and gentian.

Champagne Dom Pérignon

Dom Pérignon has had a priviledge position in the field of Champagne since it was born in 1936. Its origins are older because Dom Pérignon is part of Moët & Chandon (founded in 1743). While Moët & Chandon is involved in a good quality and large quantity Champagne production, Dom Pérignon focuses on absolute quality. Its long experience over centuries is used to produce a top quality Champagne, we all know well. Dom Pérignon is avibrant tribute to Dom Pierre Pérignon, spiritual father of Champagne. It is a miracle of assemblage and refinance with a misterious harmony, which is always new, the perfect meeting between the two classical variety Dom Pérignon, namely Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Since 1990 Richard Geoffroy has been Chef de Cave and father of the Vintages Dom Pérignon and the one embodying the spirit of Dom Pierre PérignonDom Pérignon only creates Vintage Champagnes, from the best selected grapes from a single year of vintage. It never ends its innovating experience and always offers the best of the vintage. It refuses compromises and does not produce its Vintages when the vintage is not at its best- After a 8-year vinification, the wine reaches a perfect balance, the most beautiful product of the Maison: this is Dom Pérignon VintageP2 is Deuxième Plénitude by Dom Pérignon, the result of a 16-year process of elaboration. All assemblage ingredients are well mixed and grant the Vintage a stronger intensity, liveliness and precision: Champagne energy at its best! P3 is Troisième Plénitude by Dom Pérignon, the result of a 25-year process of elaboration. The Champagne gains an even more essential structure, enriched by a slow and deep integration. This is a sublime wine, more complex than ever. The Troisième Plénitude is Dom Pérignon's soul.
