The Champagne Louis XV 1996 "300ème Anniversarie du Sacre" from the Maison de Venoge is a special edition - limited and numbered - to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the coronation of Louis XV.
In 1728, Louis XV sanctioned the birth of Champagne with a law that finally allowed bottles to be transported, which had previously been banned as it was considered very dangerous due to the fragility of the glass. Bottling the wine meant that the bubbles obtained could only be preserved for Champagne wines, marking the birth of Champagne as we know it today. The Cuvée Louis XV by Maison De Venoge is therefore dedicated to the great French monarch and a copy of the royal edict is printed inside the box.
The Champagne Louis XV Vinothèque 1996 is the most prestigious Cuvée by Maison De Venoge. It is the result of an equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from villages classified as Grand Cru: Verzenay, Ambonnay, Mailly and Bouzy for Pinot Noir and Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chouilly and Avize for Chardonnay. Harvest 1996 and aging on its own yeasts for 25 years with a final dosage of 6 g/l - making it a Brut.
The Champagne Louis XV Vinothèque 1996 is elegant and complex on the nose: it reveals spicy notes of vanilla and brioche. In the mouth the aromas are fine and lemongrass and brioche prevail. The attack is full and round, with an elegant minerality. The perfect balance between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay makes this Cuvée de Prestige elegant and sophisticated.
Maison De Venoge was founded by Henri-Marc de Venoge with his son Joseph, in 1837 in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in one of the most renowned areas of the Champagne region. In 1838, Henri-Marc De Venoge was at the origin of a true marketing revolution with the creation of the first illustrated label in the history of Champagne, a major innovation to meet the needs of the nobility of the time, who wanted to have not only a great Champagne but also a precious, elegant and unique object at the centre of the table. In 1851 the Cordon Bleu brand was registered - the iconic label with the blue band chosen as the emblem of the Maison to represent the river La Venoge and the Order of Saint-Esprit, the most famous order of knighthood under the French monarchy. In 1858, in honour of the Dutch royal family, the Cuvée Princes was launched, which is still produced today in an elegant bottle representing the decanters used at the time by the European aristocracy to serve Champagne. In 2005, the Cuvée de Prestige "Louis XV" was launched, in honour of the King who did so much for Champagne. On 25 May 1728, King Louis XV issued a decree allowing only Champagne wines to be shipped and sold in bottles, marking the birth of Champagne as we know it today. In 2015, the Maison settled in a prestigious villa - now a UNESCO World Heritage Site - at 33 Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, perfectly reflecting the image of nobility, distinction and refinement associated with De Venoge.
