The Champagne 1683 Rosé by Crété Chamberlin celebrates, with its name, the birth year of the founder Henry Crété Chamberlin. This cuvée is composed of 68% Chardonnay, 20% Meunier, and 12% Pinot Noir vinified in red, sourced from vineyards located in the prestigious Grands and Premiers Crus terroirs.
The Chardonnay parcels take root in the renowned Lieux-Dits of the Côte des Blancs, while Meunier and Pinot Noircome from selected vineyards in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, in the Vallée de la Marne. The base vintage is 2018, enriched with 44% vin de réserve from the 2017 vintage. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, without fining or filtration, with partial malolactic fermentation and 24 months of aging on lees. The dosage, reduced to 5.5 g/l (Extra Brut), enhances the purity and identity of the terroir.
During tasting, the Champagne 1683 Rosé stands out for its delicate pink hue with copper reflections, accompanied by a fine and persistent perlage, a sign of excellent lees aging. The nose offers refined and complex aromas, with fresh citrus notes such as pink grapefruit and lemon zest, followed by delicate hints of raspberry and redcurrant. In the background, an elegant chalky minerality emerges, interwoven with toasted almond and dried rose petals. On the palate, the attack is vibrant and fresh, with crisp acidity that provides tension and elegance. The Chardonnay gives structure and a pronounced minerality, while the Extra Brut dosage highlights the wine’s purity, bringing out savory and citrusy notes. The finish is long and refined, with a delicate touch of spices and bread crust.
A Champagne of great finesse and expressiveness, perfect for those seeking a Rosé Extra Brut with an authentic and vibrant soul.
The Crété-Chamberlin family history dates back to 1683, when Henry Chamberlin, originally from Moussy, dedicated himself to viticulture at the age of 20, owning vineyards in the terroirs of Moussy, Pierry, and Vinay. For nearly two centuries, eight generations followed, cultivating grapes for Champagne production. In 1878, the marriage between Eugène Crété and Hortense Chamberlin united their vineyards, creating a new family legacy.
By the late 1800s, the family began vinifying their own wine, founding Domaine Crété-Chamberlin in 1910. Under Henry’s leadership, production grew to 32,000 bottles by 1932, solidifying the brand. After World War II, Marcel Crété and his wife Odette focused on vineyard work until, in 1960, the name Marcel Crété replaced Chamberlin. In the 1980s, Roland and Micheline invested in a modern winery, advancing the Domaine’s evolution.
In 2010, Mathieu Crété returned after studying oenology in Avize, followed in 2020 by his sister Blandine. Today, they manage 84 plots, with vines averaging 60 years old, adopting an organic and biodynamic approach without restrictive certifications. Their Champagne remains balanced and authentic, honoring 14 generations of tradition while preserving their unique signature through time.
