The Domaine Rousseaux-Batteux preserves the history of a family of récoltant-manipulant winegrowers active since the 18th century, with roots in Verzenay, a Grand Cru in the Montagne de Reims. Great-grandfather Paul Rousseaux began producing Champagne in 1920, using his cellar—carved into the rock at the end of the 19th century—as a shelter for students during the First World War.
In 1976, his grandson Denis Rousseaux founded the current Rousseaux-Batteux brand with his wife Laurence Batteux, continuing the family tradition and enhancing the terroirs of Verzenay. The cellar, a symbol of resilience and historical memory, remains today the beating heart of the Domaine, where Champagnes true to the village’s identity and mineral character are crafted.
Since 2012, the estate has been led by Adrien Rousseaux, fourth generation, who manages the business with respect for tradition and a strong focus on environmental sustainability. Across the 2.6 hectares of vineyards, cultivated without pesticides or herbicides, he practices viticulture that respects the ecosystem, blending inherited savoir-faire with contemporary sensitivity.
