Champagne Bruno Gobillard

The Gobillards are a family of Vigneron since the 18th century, in the small village of Pierry, not far from Epernay in the Vallée de la Marne. In 1858, Paul Gobillard began marketing Champagne under his own label and later Bruno's father further increased this business. In 1994, at the age of 28, Bruno (sixth generation) took over and continued the family tradition with more and more attention and research for a quality production. Currently the Domaine owns about 7 hectares of vineyards, divided into 27 parcels, located mainly in the villages of Moussy, Pierry, Epernay, Cramant and Chatillon-sur-Marne. All the vineyards, with an average age of no less than 30 years, lie on calcareous soil and are cultivated according to the "lutte raisonnée" with minimal treatments and non-residual products. The soils are regularly aerated and compaction is avoided. Careful and attentive vineyard management helps to maintain the health of the vines and their fruit. Bruno Gobillard follows his family's traditions but at the same time keeps his "mind open to continue learning". The winemaking and blending methods are those traditionally used by the family over the last century using a delicate and minimalist approach. A traditional vertical wooden press is used to avoid stressing the juice and allow natural decanting. Each parcel is vinified separately in small tanks and the product undergoes malolactic fermentation. Assembly and bottling usually takes place between May and June, followed by ageing on lees for at least two years - in chalk cellars dating back to the 18th century - before disgorging with a minimum dosage of sugar. Harmonious and utterly enjoyable Champagnes.
